The main differences between the Canon T6 and T6i DSLRs are: The T6i is more advanced than the T6 in many ways. The T6i has more megapixels (24.2 vs. 18.0), higher ISO (12800 vs. 6400), More Autofocus points (19 vs. 9), a much faster processor (Digic 6 vs Digic 4+), and less shutter lag. Features on the T6i (and not on the T6) include: Touchscreen, Tilt-swivel screen, and External Mic Jack. The T6 can only use AF-S lenses that have autofocus motors built in. Canon’s WiFi & NFC Wireless Connectivity: Both models have Wifi and NFC built-in, so that you can transfer pictures to your smartphone or tablet, or send to a wireless printer. You can also remotely control the camera from a distance up to WiFi wireless range. If you want to include yourself or group portraits, this remote feature would be useful as well. NFC offers easy simple photo transfer to your smartphone.
Canon’s T6i has a flip out, articulating touchscreen.
Still Pictures: For still pictures, the Rebel T6i ISO is doubled to 12,800 (better low light performance), less shutter lag, more megapixels (24.2), burst mode is increased, and autofocus points have more than doubled to 19.
Shooting Video: The T6i is also superior for shooting video, as you get a much more responsive AF system, aided by the faster Digic 6 chip. The T6i articulating touchscreen allows you to touch to focus and to articulate the screen to shoot high and low (The T6i has no touchscreen and is fixed). An external microphone jack (for sound in your video) is only on the T6i. If you have the extra money, the T6i is more than worth its current price under $600, especially if shooting video.
Upgrade Option to Canon Rebel T7i: A big step up from the Canon T6i is the T7i, the latest Rebel camera, which more than doubles the autofocus points to 45, and adds Canon’s best Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus technology. These autofocus enhancements help not only picture taking, but are very important for videography. The camera also upgrades to Digic 7 processor, ISO doubles to 25,600 (better in low light), and adds Bluetooth connectivity.
